Description
René Descartes was one of the founders of modern philosophy. “Principles of Philosophy” presents Descartes’ view of the universe. He begins with the statement “I think, therefore I am.” As long as we are having thoughts, we cannot doubt our own existence. He then asserts that we have free will, and that the mind and the body are different things. He then shows that God must exist, and attempts to describe God. From there he provides a description of the universe, considering such things as movement and matter and the human senses.
