A Must Have Book For Every Philosophy Student

There are plenty of good philosophy websites that will give you a good idea of what philosophers are (or were) doing and how they do (or did) it. Though this list is not exhaustive, it is fairly representative of what you’ll find (in English) elsewhere. In addition, these sites often have links to other sites that are not listed here.

American Philosophical Association https://www.apaonline.org
The APA is a professional philosophers association, though some of its work extends beyond the profession. It is a good resource for becoming acquainted with academic philosophy as a career.

Daily Nous is “news for and about the philosophy profession.” A variety of links is aggregated for general interest reading, philosophers moving from one institution to another, and links to other sites and materials.

Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy (IEP) https://www.iep.utm.edu
This peer-reviewed encyclopedia is an accessible introduction to a broad range of concepts, topics, and thinkers.

A repository of open-access philosophy resources, from journals to other repositories.

Philosophy Pages http://www.philosophypages.com
Focused on the Western philosophical tradition, Philosophy Pages, offers a comprehensive set of resources: a dictionary of philosophical terms and names, a survey of the history of Western philosophy, a timeline of figures discussed, a summary of logical principles, and a study guide for students.

Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (SEP) https://plato.stanford.edu
“The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy organizes scholars from around the world in philosophy and related disciplines to create and maintain an up-to-date reference work.” Though some SEP entries might require background or technical knowledge, all are written with an eye toward clearly encapsulating complex topics, concepts, or thinkers.
