Modus ponens“

Mode of affirmation,” the Latin name for the formal logic rule that allows the inference of the consequent of a conditional claim from the affirmation of the antecedent. Argument of the form that if A is true, and the conditional (if A then B) is true, then you can infer B. (See also Conditional elimination.)
